KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has spoken directly with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto over the worsening haze, with both leaders agreeing on the need for cooperation to address the situation.
Anwar said Malaysia had, over the past several weeks, expressed its readiness to provide any assistance necessary as the haze continued to affect public health.
“The haze has reached a worrying level and I have personally contacted President Prabowo, and he also agreed to take the necessary measures,” he told reporters after the 2027 Budget Review Day today.
He said the Foreign Minister and Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister had also been in contact with their Indonesian counterparts on the issue.

Anwar said Malaysia had intensified cloud-seeding and rain-making operations almost daily through the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) and several other agencies.
“However, the situation remains worrying,” he said.
Anwar said he had instructed the Foreign Minister to contact the Asean Secretariat to coordinate a meeting of Asean environment ministers in response to the current haze situation.
“We have taken all these measures, but we will continue to monitor the situation and take whatever further steps are necessary,” he said.
He said the government remained concerned about the impact of the haze on Malaysians’ health and would continue coordinating efforts with relevant agencies and regional partners. Anwar speaks with Prabowo over worsening haze, agrees on need for cooperation
