Anwar tasks new Felda chairman with advancing settler welfare and long-term sustainability

PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has emphasised that the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) must remain a strong institution dedicated to improving the livelihoods and future prospects of settlers and their families.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the matter was highlighted during his courtesy meeting with newly appointed Felda chairman Tan Sri Ahmad Badri Mohd Zahir in Putrajaya yesterday.

He said efforts to safeguard the welfare of every generation of settlers must go hand in hand with initiatives to strengthen Felda’s economic competitiveness, sustainability and ability to address challenges faced by younger generations.

“I believe that with the responsibility entrusted to him, Ahmad Badri will be able to continue the agenda of restoring and strengthening Felda.

“The MADANI Government will continue to provide full support to ensure this people-focused institution continues to progress and remains relevant for future generations,” he said in a Facebook post.

Anwar said Felda’s future development must focus on empowering settlers while ensuring the organisation remains financially resilient, competitive and capable of adapting to evolving economic challenges.

Ahmad Badri officially assumed the role of Felda chairman on 15 July, replacing Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, whose tenure ended on 30 June.

The leadership transition comes as Felda continues efforts to strengthen governance, improve operational performance and ensure sustainable development for its settler communities across the country. - July 18, 2026
