In his latest blog post titled The Amazing Liar, former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad launched a scathing response to remarks made by current Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during a public appearance in Jakarta. Anwar had reportedly referred to alleged wealth owned by Mahathir and his sons, claiming that such funds should be returned unless their sources were clearly explained. Mahathir responded by asserting that neither he nor his sons ever admitted to owning the amounts Anwar cited—figures that include RM1.2 billion and RM4 billion.

Mahathir questioned where Anwar obtained such numbers, emphasizing that the Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Tan Sri Azam Baki, had already investigated the matter thoroughly. According to MACC records, Mahathir’s son Mokhzani declared assets amounting to RM1 billion, while Mirzan’s declaration stood at RM246.2 million. Mahathir pointed out that Azam Baki had publicly stated the MACC was satisfied with the declarations made by both individuals.

He challenged the notion that the MACC could be “satisfied” without verifying the legitimacy of the declared assets, noting that both sons had been questioned multiple times over long hours. The declared assets reportedly included properties, shares, and liabilities accumulated over two decades in business—assets that have naturally appreciated over time. Mahathir stressed that there was no mention by MACC of any unclear or illegitimate sources of wealth.

He also criticized what he described as a baseless demand from Anwar, questioning whether the Prime Minister expected his family to liquidate all their assets and hand the proceeds over to the government. Mahathir underscored that such a demand lacked any legal or logical foundation.

Turning to the recent protest held on July 26, Mahathir clarified that the public gathering was not an expression of support for him or his sons. Rather, it was a demonstration against Anwar’s leadership, driven by public dissatisfaction with his administration. He argued that the appropriate course of action, if Anwar wished to gauge real public sentiment, would be to dissolve Parliament and call for a general election—insisting that parliamentary motions were irrelevant to a groundswell of discontent originating from the people, not MPs.
