Anwar to present Malaysia’s position at key G20 Leaders’ Summit sessions in Johannesburg

PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will participate in several key meetings on the third day of his working visit to Johannesburg in conjunction with the G20 Leaders’ Summit.

Anwar’s first engagement will see him deliver Malaysia’s national statement during Session 1 titled “Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Growth Leaving No One Behind: Building Our Economies; the Role of Trade; Financing for Development; and the Debt Burden”.

The session focuses on strengthening global economic frameworks while ensuring equitable growth and addressing mounting debt pressures faced by developing nations.

Later in the afternoon, the Prime Minister will present Malaysia’s views during Session 2, themed “A Resilient World – the G20’s Contribution: Disaster Risk Reduction; Climate Change; Just Energy Transitions; Food Systems”.

The discussions will centre on coordinated international efforts to enhance disaster preparedness, accelerate equitable energy transitions and fortify global food supply chains.

Bernama reported today following his intervention in Session 2, Anwar will attend the G20 Leaders’ Dinner hosted by South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa at the NASREC Expo Centre.

Anwar is undertaking a four-day working visit to South Africa from 20 to 23 November to attend the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg as a guest of the G20 Chair, President Cyril Ramaphosa. Malaysia received the invitation in its capacity as ASEAN Chair for 2025.

The G20 comprises Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Türkiye, the United Kingdom, the United States, the African Union and the European Union.

Accompanying Anwar, who also serves as Malaysia’s Finance Minister, are the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz; the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Zaliha Mustafa; senior government officials and a business delegation. - November 22, 2025
