Talks regarding the collaboration between Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Tun Dr Mahathir Muhammad have hit the pages of Malaysia's news network.
While political coalition nowadays emerged like mushrooms after the rain, this one, in particular, look similar to all the cliche plots that can be seen in so many novels and dramas, where toxic relationship are romanticised to the maximum.
Sinar Harian reported Tun Mahathir says he didn't mind taking back his own word regarding Anwar Ibrahim and was willing to collaborate with his enemies to ensure Dato' Seri Najib Razak's defeat in the previous elections.
“When I met Anwar in court, the only thing I had in my mind was how to stop Najib and Umno from continuing to reign,” he said, referring to his highly publicized encounter with the PKR president in September 2016.
According to Free Malaysia Today (FMT), the publicized conversation occur during the time Anwar serve his time in jail, due to 2 sodomy convictions.
However, Malaysianow reported that the coalition failed with Tun's claims of internal pressure on him to resign from his position as prime minister.
As we can obviously see, this kind of scenario is the typical cliche toxic relationship in a drama that is often shown on the tv, where the Hero (Tun M) of the show blames the Heroine (Anwar) for all his misfortune, despite all his sweet promises.
Thus, blames had been put on Anwar Ibrahim, for causing internal pressure, calling for Tun M's resignation, despite The Straits Time report of Tun's promises to Anwar Ibrahim, to ensure that he will become the prime minister after serving for 2 years.
Like cliche toxic relationship drama, there will always be betrayal from a third party to screw over the main characters of the show.
The Sheraton move in 2020, led by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yaasin and Dato' Sri Azmin Ali with MPs from the losing side has shaken the democracy of the nation, by building a new government coalition, named Perikatan Nasional.
Sure, we laugh over Mak Cik Kiah jokes and they may step up during Covid Pandemic, we cannot deny this is a betrayal of the trust of the people who deviate their vote, in hopes to crush the regimes of the corrupt.
The hero and the heroine of the story, try their best to rise up again, and gain the trust of the people, by pointing out the flaws of the current government, with no avails.
However, it's still not the end of the road for the Hero, as he had been making his own party, named Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA), and trying his best to get back with the heroine.
The Edge reported that the PH chairman has no qualms about meeting former prime minister, Tun Mahathir to discuss political cooperation for the 15th general election (GE15).
“Can meet and discuss but as I have always stressed, we need to fight PN or BN on the basis of rejecting corruption, racial (politics), and extremism. If that is the request, I have no problems,” says Anwar during his visits to Klang's Little India at Jalan Kelana.
It can be frustrating to see the heroine still consider getting back with the walking red flags of a Hero, thankfully, for now, that is not the case.
The Sun Daily reported that the Pakatan Harapan secretary general stated that they are prepared to face the election without GTA.
“We respect him as a partner whom we have experience fighting alongside. We understand the times when one is desperate to seek allies, and when it is easy to break promises.", says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution, PH's secretary general.
“Yes, we share the same goal of defeating BN and Perikatan Nasional. However, Harapan will face GE15 as a Mahathir-free coalition.", add Saifuddin.
Luckily, they had learned their lessons.
To be perfectly fair, they should have realized the alarming warning signal all the way back to 1999, when Anwar was sentenced to 6 years under the conviction of abuse of power, when he was at the peak of his political career, with his contribution during Asia Financial Crisis in 1997.
The fact that they ignore it, in hopes of gaining Malaysian's trust to give them the mandate to rule, makes us questions the real intentions of these people, and wonder if they are a good fit for Malaysia.
Not saying that any other party are any better.
After all, they all come from the same mould and the same political party.
While it is amusing to see soap operas being played, it's frustrating to deal with when the stage is the national political arena.
Regardless, we as Malaysians still need to do our part, to ensure, only those who are worthy, can represent us, and rebuild our beloved nation for years to come.
