PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on civil servants to continuously strive for self-improvement and excellence while upholding sincerity, responsibility, and integrity in public service.
Speaking at the National Development Symposium and Awards 2025 today, Anwar said civil servants must not be content with their current performance but should feel a constant drive to do better.
“We must always feel compelled to improve ourselves, increase our efforts, and carry out our duties to the best of our ability,” he said.
He emphasised that excellence should not be viewed merely as a slogan or a measure of performance, but as a reflection of the trust and values inherent in Malaysia’s administrative system.
“Rank, title, honours, medals, or high positions do not necessarily reflect that one has fulfilled their trust with sincerity, dedication, and integrity,” Anwar added.
He reminded that every idea and initiative should be directed towards uplifting the nation and protecting the interests of the marginalised and neglected.
Anwar also expressed gratitude for Malaysia’s encouraging economic performance, which he described as one of the best in Asia.
“This morning I announced that our latest measures are very encouraging — record-high investments, low unemployment, a strengthening ringgit, and the best economic performance in Asia.
“Malaysia may not have a large economy, but we have achieved something extraordinary through peace, political stability, teamwork between political leaders and the civil service, and the effective implementation of policies,” he said.
The Prime Minister underscored that genuine national development goes beyond technological advancement and must be rooted in holistic human development based on values, ethics, and social responsibility.
“Human development must include empathy, care for family, and attention to the needs of the vulnerable,” he said, stressing that the country’s success depends on leaders and officials who perform their duties sincerely rather than seeking recognition or status.
“Are we truly doing our best? Does holding rank or receiving awards mean we have fully fulfilled our trust? Development must defend those who are left out or marginalised,” he said.
Anwar added that Malaysia’s success in attracting investment and maintaining stability was not easily achieved, given its modest economy.
“For a country like Malaysia, these achievements are not simple. We have a moderate economy, yet we have succeeded in attracting high investment and maintaining political stability,” he said.
He also highlighted the need to integrate traditional development values with new technologies such as artificial intelligence, energy transformation, and innovation, while preserving religion, culture, and national unity.
“Our work is a trust. We must continue to develop ourselves, our families, and our nation with sincerity and determination. It is not easy, but genuine effort will yield convincing results for the people and the country.
“The determination of all of you to move the nation forward is no simple task. Each day presents new challenges — that is part and parcel of life,” Anwar said. - November 12, 2025
