PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has emphasised that the real measure of a nation’s progress lies not in towering buildings or modern infrastructure, but in the well-being and quality of life experienced by its citizens.

In a message to mark Federal Territories Day, he highlighted the importance of inclusive growth, stressing that national development must benefit all communities and ensure no one is left behind.

“National development should not be measured solely by the height of our buildings, physical advancement, or modern infrastructure, but by how deeply it touches the lives and welfare of the people — with every step forward grounded in justice and the needs of society,” he said in a social media post on Monday.

He added that every development initiative must safeguard against marginalising any group, so that the gains of progress are shared fairly among all Malaysians.

As the country celebrates Federal Territories Day, Anwar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining harmony, stability, and collective well-being under the MADANI governance framework.

“Therefore, the spirit of compassion, mutual respect and togetherness that forms the core of the MADANI Government will continue to be strengthened to ensure harmony, stability and shared prosperity,” he said.

The Prime Minister concluded by sending his greetings to residents of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Labuan, wishing them a happy Federal Territories anniversary. - February 1, 2026
