Anwar Ibrahim urges public and private sectors to adopt flexible work-from-home arrangements to boost resilience amid global economic uncertainty.
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia could see a more flexible work culture as the government explores work-from-home arrangements for civil servants, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today, urging the private sector to adopt similar measures.
In a special address today, Anwar also encouraged the private sector to follow suit, noting that some companies and banks have already implemented such measures.
“On the government side, we will continue to maintain discipline, avoid wastage, and ensure Malaysia’s economic growth momentum remains strong,” he said, highlighting the country’s continued appeal as an investment hub despite global economic challenges.
Anwar added that both public and private sector employees should work diligently to enhance Malaysia’s economic capacity and resilience amid global uncertainties.
“This approach allows us to maintain productivity while adapting to evolving work practices.
“We pray that Malaysia remains stable and that all sectors work tirelessly to strengthen our economy, even amid global tests and challenges,” he said.
The government has been considering work-from-home arrangements since the beginning of the month.
Recently, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the decision for the public sector would be made after Raya, while little has been mentioned regarding plans for the private sector.
