Anwar says institutional reforms remain a priority, including limiting the prime minister’s tenure and separating the Attorney-General and Public Prosecutor’s roles.
PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has vowed to press ahead with efforts to limit the prime minister’s tenure despite failing to secure the two-thirds parliamentary majority needed to push through the reform.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the proposed separation of the Attorney-General and Public Prosecutor’s roles had also undergone extensive scrutiny as part of the government’s institutional reform agenda.
“The most difficult reform is one that limits our own power. We respect the parliamentary process, but our determination to pursue these reforms will never fade,” he said when tabling Budget 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat today.
He stressed that the government’s commitment to institutional reform remained firm despite the parliamentary setback
