APMM Helicopter Crashes into Ocean in Selangor, All 4 Crew Members Rescued!

A helicopter belonging to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM), an Italian-made model AW 139 with the registration number M72-01, was reported to have made an emergency landing in the waters of Angsa Island, Selangor, this morning (March 3).

Though, fortunately, everyone on board were found safe and sound!

Based on a report by Astro Awani, the Director General of APMM Admiral Datuk Hamid Mohd Amin shared that the incident occurred at approximately 9.55am today during a rescue exercise.

BERNAMA RADIO took to their Twitter account to showcase footage of the incident, allegedly taken from a nearby fishing boat.

In the video, the helicopter could be seen spiraling before crashing into the ocean.

The fishermen on the boat who witnessed the incident made an emergency call, leading to Operation Search and Rescue (CARILAMAT) being activated at 10:15am by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) and the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) Putrajaya.

At the time of the incident, the helicopter was flown by Lieutenant Commander Tengku Mohd Nizam Tengku Zakaria, Lieutenant Commander Mohamad Azrol Saidi along with an air crew of Warrant Officer I John Ibno and a Junior Rescue Swimmer, Muhamad Nurhayyat Hashim.

Thankfully, all crew members were successfully rescued and flown to the Subang Maritime Air Station (SUMS).
