App Store Prevented More Than US$2.2 Billion In Fraudulent Transactions In 2025: Apple

In 2025, Apple App Store prevented more than US$2.2 billion in potentially fraudulent transactions, bringing the total amount blocked over the past six years to more than US$11.2 billion, according to the company’s press release. In addressing account fraud, Apple stated that it rejected 1.1 billion fraudulent customer account creation attempts during 2025 and deactivated an additional 40.4 million customer accounts linked to fraud and abuse. The company also terminated 193,000 developer accounts over fraud concerns and rejected more than 138,000 developer enrolment applications.

Regarding app-related statistics, the company said it detected and blocked 28,000 illegitimate apps distributed through pirate storefronts, including malware, gambling, pornography, and modified versions of legitimate App Store software. It also prevented 2.9 million attempts to install or launch applications distributed outside the App Store or approved alternative marketplaces within the last month alone.

Last year, the App Review team evaluated more than 9.1 million app submissions, including apps from over 306,000 new developers. Apple rejected more than 1.2 million new app submissions and nearly 800,000 app updates for violating App Store Review Guidelines. Nearly 59,000 apps involved in “bait-and-switch” activity was removed, where apps initially approved for one purpose later modified their functionality for fraudulent activities.

Apple also rejected over 22,000 submissions containing hidden or undocumented features, more than 371,000 submissions for spam or misleading behavior and over 443,000 submissions linked to privacy violations; meanwhile, its TestFlight platform, used by developers for app testing and feedback collection, blocked more than 2.5 million submissions in 2025 due to fraud or security concerns.

In relation to discovery fraud, Apple said it processed more than 1.3 billion ratings and reviews during the year and blocked nearly 195 million fraudulent reviews and ratings from appearing on the App Store. The company also blocked approximately 7,800 deceptive apps from appearing in search results and prevented an additional 11,500 apps from appearing on App Store charts.

For payment security, Apple said more than 680,000 apps currently use Apple payment technologies including Apple Pay and StoreKit. During 2025, the company prevented more than US$2.2 billion in fraudulent transactions, blocked the use of more than 5.4 million stolen credit cards and banned nearly 2 million user accounts from making further transactions.

Apple also highlighted safety measures for children and families, including stricter review requirements for apps listed under the Kids category. The company said it rejected more than 5,000 apps from the category in 2025 for failing to comply with App Store rules related to age ratings and advertising.
