Appam, my favorite comfort food. Especially if they were to cook it with eggs on it. Appam is a type of thin pancake originating from South India. It is made with fermented rice batter and coconut milk, traditionally cooked in an appachatti, a deep pan similar in shape to a wok. It is part of Kerala and Tamil cuisine found in the Indian states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala and northern Sri Lanka.

Since this restaurant originates from South India, I guess I am at the right place and definitely at the right time.

On our way home and avoiding the traffic jam at Jalan Klang Lama, we utilized Waze to the utmost and detoured into this quaint shop at Petaling Garden. When I was little we used to stay at this townhouses back in the early 80's. I didn't noticed the shops here before but today was an accidental journey back as traffic was building up. Nowadays, I do my best to look at the positive side of things that occur.

Looking at the time, it was already close to 6pm and I was hungry. I saw the guy making the appam and thought maybe I should try this since it looked fresh on his non-stick mini wok.

Lara's Spice Kitchen serves authentic South Indian food and specializes in Banana Leaf Rice. They were formerly known as Devi's Corner - maybe that will ring some bells for the local PJ dwellers.

Being back in the Petaling Garden area brings back nostalgic memories to me and my mother. Although I can't really recall most stuff there now Lara's Spice Kitchen will definitely bring me back to this neighborhood.

For that authentic South Indian Banana leaf and definitely Apom for me, do head on to Lara's Spice Kitchen in 274, Jalan 5/51, Taman Petaling, 46000 Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Mobile : 012-833 9334

They are open as early as 7am. I guess now I know where I am heading off for breakfast then.

To Apom and Beyond!
