Apple has announced yet another launch event – thought to be for a whole new kind of MacBook.
The company has been widely rumoured to be planning the launch of its first ever touchscreen Mac. That appears to finally be arriving at the end of the month.
Apple has invited members of the press to an event – titled “Pro and Tell” – in Los Angeles on 28 October. Apple marketing chief Greg Joswiak announced the event in a cryptic post on his X account.

The headline launch of the upcoming event is expected to be a new MacBook Pro, the first with a touchscreen. Apple has long been rumoured to be working on such a product – though its executives, including new chief executive John Ternus, have also repeatedly criticised the practicality and ergonomics of such devices.
The new computer is also rumoured to be lighter than the existing model, feature its new M5 Pro and Max chips, and come with an OLED display of the kind found on the iPhone and the Dynamic Island notch cutout that sits at the top of that screen. Given those improvements, the new device is expected to be more expensive than the existing MacBook Pro products.
Apple is also rumoured to be planning to introduce a new iPad Mini, an updated iMac and a refresh of the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro.
The event will mark Apple’s third launch in two months. It held its usual iPhone launch in early September, and that was followed by another event last week.
During that event – titled Welcome Home and focused on products for people’s houses – Apple introduced its new HomeView smart display and updates to the Apple TV and HomePods. The upcoming event is likely to take the same format, with Apple announcing the products on its website and then allowing the media to see them in person.
Since he took over Apple at the beginning of September, John Ternus has been reported to be encouraging the company to more quickly introduce new kinds of products to expand its offering. He has already overseen the launch of the iPhone Duo, Apple’s first ever folding device, as well as the HomeView.
