Apple Officially Introduces Tap To Pay On iPhone Feature In Malaysia

Tap to Pay on iPhone enables merchants to accept payments directly on an iPhone 11 or newer devices; during a transaction, customers can hold a contactless credit or debit card, iPhone, Apple Watch or other digital wallet near the merchant’s iPhone to complete payment via NFC. The system supports Apple Pay as well as other digital wallets and contactless cards from payment networks including American Express, JCB, Mastercard, MyDebit, UnionPay and Visa.

Apple is working with payment platforms and application developers to integrate the feature into existing payment systems. In Malaysia, initial support is provided through platforms including ADAPTIS, Fiuu, HitPay, Stripe and Zoho, enabling merchants to activate the functionality through compatible apps. The feature is also expected to be introduced for checkout at Apple’s Malaysian flagship store (located in The Exchange TRX) at a later stage.

Transactions processed through Tap to Pay on iPhone are encrypted and handled through the device’s Secure Element. Regarding privacy, Apple stresses that its procedures do not store card numbers or transaction details on the device or its servers, and the company does not have visibility into purchase information or user identity associated with transactions.
