Dear Sirs, I am looking to pursue a post graduate study for a Doctor of Philosophy in a local university and I have been advised to do it at USM.
I have undertaken a little bit of research and am glad to note that,
- USM is ranked #137 in QS World University Rankings 2024,
- The second oldest university in Malaysia where its main thrust is in the development of higher education in the fields of Natural Sciences, Applied Sciences, Medical and Health Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Building Sciences & Technology, Social Sciences, Humanities and Education
- The only university in Malaysia awarded Accelerated Programme for Excellence (APEX), a special status accorded by the Ministry of Higher Education
- A premium Research Intensive University in the country departing from the traditional faculty system to the broad-based school system
- A university that champions sustainability issues
- Has 17 Centres of Excellence (CoE) and 2 Higher Institution Centres of Excellence (HICoE) that offer research and innovation opportunities to prospective researchers, as well as to provide for the development, application and the dissemination of knowledge
As an introduction, I believe I possessed the following attributes that can contribute to groundbreaking research projects if my application is accepted and I am allowed to do my Doctor of Philosophy at USM.
- enduring curiosity and critical thinking skills
- strong work ethic, conscientiousness and attention to detail
- organisational and time-management skills
- ability and willingness to collaborate with anyone including your supervisor, other research students and staff
- persistence and resilience
- intrinsic motivation and self-discipline
- to be able to extract the important facts from papers
- ability to communicate effectively and able to break things down into simple relationships and questions to be answered
I am thoroughly aware that the primary purpose of PhD work is to advance human knowledge by asking questions about why things are the way they are and how they could be made better.
Be that as it may, another principal reason why I have decided on USM for my post graduate study and writing to you now is the apparent ease with which USM accepts and award Doctor of Philosophy to their post graduate students.
A case in point is the alumni from USM who is currently making waves with her like a `deer in headlights’ look spewing logical impossibility in the public that one must wonder how she can achieve an acceptable approval and possible for USM to award her a Doctor of Philosophy.
If this trait – able to extract important facts – was demonstrated in her application to gain admission to do her post graduate study at USM, then without a doubt, this university is definitely my choice to do post graduate study.
As far as I am aware, there is no educational curriculum or post graduate research on the topic on how to spew illogical nonsense which is unbecoming and thereafter respond to public enquiries that it is possible for something that is not abstract to still be abstract and for something that is inventive to not be inventive.
If one of the criteria set is how well adept the applicant is with respect to logic, she definitely qualified hands down.
Then I rest my case and will be looking at other universities to do my post graduate study instead.
