Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Human Development and Empowerment Association (SAHDEA) urged the State Government to prioritise strategic and inclusive appointments as it finalises its leadership team following the recent state election.

While congratulating Datuk Jafry Ariffin on his appointment as Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, SAHDEA said that upcoming appointments to statutory bodies, government-linked companies and development agencies will be critical to Sabah’s development trajectory.

The association is calling for appointees with proven track records in youth empowerment, rural development, human capital development and environmental stewardship.

SAHDEA President Arthur Erik said the forthcoming selections will define the government’s operational effectiveness and connection to the people.

He pointed out the need for balanced regional representation, gender inclusivity, and integration of professionals from technology, social enterprise and environmental science sectors.

“We hope to see experienced administrators alongside dynamic emerging leaders who reflect Sabah’s diverse talent pool, with vision extending beyond short-term gains to foster long-term inclusive growth,” he said.

The association has pledged to collaborate with appointed leaders on programmes strengthening socio-economic participation, youth opportunities, and community-driven development across the State.
