19 April 2026 is the date that appears to be central to all the ongoing contentious issues ongoing in Negeri Sembilan.
On 19 April 2026, the 4 Undangs announce the alleged removal of Tuanku Muhriz as state ruler.
Next day, 20 April 2026, the then menteri besar rejects the move by the 4 Undangs, saying Undang for Sungai Ujong was already removed prior to 19 April 2025, to be exact on 17 April 2026 for contravening customary laws.
4 June 2026, the then Mentri Besar formally sought and obtained the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, to dissolve the state legislative assembly.
5 June 2026 , the state assembly was dissolved.
18 July 2026 was nomination date.
1 Aug 2026, polling.
2 Aug 2026, the present Mentri Besar was sworn in before the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
4 Aug 2026, the menteri besar sidesteps the claim but declares full loyalty for Tuanku Muhriz.
7 Aug 2026, 10 assemblymen from BN and PN were sworn in as Negeri Sembilan exco members, comprising seven from Umno and one each from MCA, PAS and Wawasan.
5 Sept 2026, in a statement, the four “undangs” revealed that the present Mentri Besar had signed the proclamation on 3 Aug 2026 to remove Tuanku Muhriz.
8 Sept 2026, the “undangs” hold a press conference and produce the purported proclamation signed by the menteri besar.
9 Sept 2026, the present Mentri Besar claims he signed the document “unwillingly and under coercion”, and maintains that the proclamation is invalid. He also lodges a police report to allow the matter to be probed.
16 Sept 2026, the Negeri Sembilan exco members issue a statement claiming that Tuanku Muhriz’s removal in April was legitimate, and that Tunku Nadzaruddin was, therefore, the new ruler.
17 Sept 2026, the Mentri Besar endorses the exco’s statement and orders the state secretary to proceed with gazetting the proclamation.
Why 19 April 2026 is contentious?
If 19 April 2026 is upheld, all subsequent events listed above that transpired, would be null and void.
If 19 April 2026 was upheld, the then government would not have dissolved because the consent given by the Yang di Pertuan Besar is invalid.
1 Aug 2026 polling would not have happened.
And if polling did not transpired on 1 Aug 2026, the state government would still be governed by the then Mentri Besar, Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun and the present Mentri Besar would not have been appointed to his position.
There were calls for the public to refrain from making superficial or uninformed commentary on the basis that outsiders do not understand how power is shared and balanced between the customary chiefs and the royal institution under this centuries-old system, claiming that knowing the rules on paper is very different from understanding how they are lived and breathed.
Adat Perpatih is heavily documented, publicly accessible, and taught in schools and universities across Malaysia.
It is not a set of secret rituals or hidden occult practices.
And also Malaysian law does not view the backdating of documents as illegal.
And backdating a legal document is valid only if it is done in good faith to record a prior oral agreement and does not deceive 3rd parties.
Was there deceit involved?
