A student-led environmental campaign titled “Touch Grass” is being organised by students of the MSc. International Business Communication programme at Asia Pacific University (APU), Kuala Lumpur, in collaboration with Free Tree Society Bangsar. The campaign focuses on raising awareness on forest conservation and promoting sustainable living practices within the community.

Established in 2013, Free Tree Society has distributed over 86,000 plants across Malaysia and continues to engage communities through workshops, volunteer programmes, and sustainability education. As part of the campaign, a half-day environmental workshop titled “Plant the Future” will be held on 4 April 2026 at the Free Tree Society nursery in Bangsar.

The workshop is designed to provide participants with hands-on learning experiences in sustainability, planting, and forest conservation. Activities include a guided nursery tour, biodiversity and environmental sustainability talks, as well as practical sessions such as planting workshops and nursery maintenance. Participants will also have the opportunity to take home free plants, encouraging continued environmental engagement beyond the event.

The “Touch Grass” campaign also incorporates a fundraising initiative to support the ongoing efforts of Free Tree Society. As part of this effort, a booth was set up at Asia Pacific University, Kuala Lumpur on 30 and 31 March 2026, where plant seeds were distributed as tokens of appreciation for public donations.

In addition, contributions from workshop participants and a public RM2 donation challenge have been introduced, with all proceeds going towards sustaining environmental education programmes and tree distribution efforts across Malaysia.

“Through this campaign, we hope to show that even small, everyday actions can contribute to a larger environmental impact. ‘Touch Grass’ is about reconnecting people with nature while supporting meaningful initiatives that promote sustainability,” said Rebecca Tschakste, Campaign Director.

The organisers encourage the public to support the campaign through donations, social media engagement, and participation in future initiatives.
