ARCHIPELAGO Philippine Ferries Corp. launched the new Maasin to Surigao route of the MV FastCat M17 during its maiden voyage on Feb. 15, 2026.

The Grand Launch and Inaugural Voyage were attended by personnel from the Terminal Management Office (TMO) Maasin and other officials.

The vessel will operate daily trips between the two cities. The scheduled departures from Surigao City to Maasin City, Southern Leyte, are at 1 a.m. and 1 p.m. Departures from Maasin City to Surigao City are set for 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The addition of this route is intended to strengthen the transportation link between the two cities. The service aims to provide a more efficient and reliable maritime option for passengers traveling between Southern Leyte and Surigao.

The MV FastCat M17 is a catamaran-type roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) ferry. It is designed to carry both passengers and vehicles, offering different accommodation classes. This deployment is part of the company’s efforts to modernize sea travel in the region.

Officials from the TMO and local government units noted that the new route provides an alternative for travelers and cargo. By offering direct daily trips, the service expects to improve the flow of movement for residents and businesses in both provinces.

With the start of regular operations, the corporation aims to maintain an orderly maritime service. This expansion is expected to assist in the overall connectivity of the Visayas and Mindanao sea lanes.
