A dispute over payment of Rs 130 toll fee allegedly turned fatal when the manager of the Baddo-Patti toll plaza on the Hisar-Chandigarh highway near Barwala was run over by occupants of a Scorpio SUV on Monday night.

Police have registered a murder case under Sections 103(1), 2(5) and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the Arms Act, and launched an investigation.

According to the complaint lodged by toll plaza employee Rupesh Morya, four youths travelling in the Scorpio argued with the toll staff over payment of the toll fee. During the altercation, they allegedly drove the vehicle into the manager, knocking him to the ground, before running over him and fleeing the spot. Police said one of the accused has been identified as Manoj, a resident of Bahbalpur village in Hisar district.

Barwala police station SHO Dalbir Singh Punia reached the spot and initiated the investigation.
