A group of armed youths allegedly vandalised vehicles and attempted to take illegal possession of a shop at Ramlila Maidan in Dera Bassi around 11 pm on Thursday.
Shop owner Ishwar Sharma alleged that the accused tried to forcibly occupy the shop but failed. He claimed that the attackers disconnected the electricity supply by cutting the power meter and used a tractor to drag vehicles parked outside the shop, causing extensive damage.
According to Sharma, the entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed on the premises. When passersby stopped to watch the incident, the youths threatened them with swords and sticks.
Sharma said one of the cars got entangled in an iron grill while being dragged, resulting in heavy damage to the vehicle.
Following the complaint, the police have launched an investigation. Dera Bassi Station House Officer Sumit Mor said CCTV footage of the cameras installed at the shop had been taken into possession. He said further investigation into the incident was underway.
