In separate incidents along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector, the Army on Sunday foiled an exfiltration bid and apprehended a Pakistan-occupied J&K (PoJK) resident who had crossed into this side of the border allegedly to meet his lover.
The Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said that alert troops intercepted the 22-year-old intruder, identified as Zeeshan Mir, a resident of Muzaffarabad, while he was crossing the LoC in the Silikote area of Uri. “The vigilant troops maintained restraint while challenging the intruder and surgically apprehended the individual. He was handed over to J&K Police for further legal proceedings,” the statement read.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Mir crossed the LoC to meet a girl in Tileai village of Uri, whom he had contacted via social media. Both Mir and the woman were detained and questioned by security agencies.
In another incident, three persons were apprehended in a joint operation by the Army and J&K Police while attempting exfiltration to PoJK. Based on specific intelligence input, the joint operation was conducted in the general area of Uri, Baramulla. “Two individuals from Sopore were apprehended while attempting exfiltration in Uri Sector with inimical intent along with their accomplice guide. Further probe is underway,” the Chinar Corps said.
The three were intercepted along the Hathlanga–Nambla axis during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. Reports indicate the exfiltrating youth were in contact with terror handlers in PoJK, though this remains unconfirmed.
Vigil along the LoC in Uri has been strengthened in wake of these incidents.
