TAWAU: The Malaysian Army plans to relocate the 13th Malaysian Infantry Brigade headquarters from Cenderawasih Camp in Lahad Datu, where it has operated since 2019, to Kukusan Camp in Tawau for tactical and strategic reasons, according to former brigade commander Datuk Jagjit Singh Indar Singh.
He said the new headquarters would be established at Kukusan Camp after it was rebuilt following the relocation of the 26th Royal Malay Regiment (26 RAMD) to the new Malaysian Army camp at Felda Sahabat, which is expected to be completed by mid-2028.
During the reconstruction period, the 13th Brigade headquarters would operate temporarily from Mid Valley Commercial Hub along Jalan Chong Thien Vun in Tawau, he told reporters after a ceremony marking his retirement as commander at Kubota Camp here on Tuesday.
Jagjit, who served as commander from Jan 7, 2025, until Oct 13, 2026, said the brigade had maintained security along Sabah’s east coast, with no kidnapping-for-ransom (KFR) incidents reported during the past two years, and expressed confidence that the incoming leadership would sustain the achievement.
He also called for improvements to the brigade’s limited assets and manpower, particularly in land mobility, to support operational requirements, adding that the formation’s achievements had been made possible by the support of Army leadership and the hard work of its battalion commanders.
