KUALA LUMPUR – Former Army Chief Tan Sri Hafizuddeain Jantan and his wife, Salwani Anuar, are set to be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Special Corruption Court today in connection with a money laundering case.

Both Hafizuddeain and Salwani will each face four charges under Section 4(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA 2001).

According to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the 58-year-old former senior Armed Forces officer will also face two additional charges under the same section and Act at the Shah Alam Special Corruption Court tomorrow. His wife, meanwhile, will face one further charge at the Jertih Sessions Court in Terengganu on Monday.

On January 7, Hafizuddeain and his two wives were arrested by the MACC in connection with army procurement tenders. He was remanded for seven days, while his wives were remanded for three and six days respectively.

At a press conference, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that assets worth RM11.4 million were seized from two of Hafizuddeain’s residences, including a secret house in Kuala Lumpur.

Additional seizures were made at a property in Besut, Terengganu, while 75 company accounts amounting to RM32.5 million were frozen.

The enforcement agency had earlier visited the Ministry of Defence on December 23 to initiate preliminary investigations into several army-related projects dating back to 2023.

On January 11, a senior Armed Forces management officer under investigation for alleged misuse of funds had his statement recorded to assist in the probe.

Three days later, on January 14, another high-ranking Armed Forces officer was arrested by the MACC in connection with an alleged cartel involving army procurement tenders. - January 22, 2026
