In the 2025/26 season, there’s hardly a player at Liverpool who covers as much ground as Dominik Szoboszlai.

Van Dijk has long been in the conversation for best centre-back in the Premier League, and Salah’s numbers speak for themselves. There’s no question he belongs among Liverpool’s all-time greats.

But now, Arne Slot has brought up another point of discussion. He believes Szoboszlai deserves to be talked about as one of the best pressers in world football.

The Hungarian has been praised by several pundits this season, with Steven Gerrard among those who’ve called him Liverpool’s top performer.

Szoboszlai’s adaptability has been a key asset for Slot, who’s used him in multiple roles, including right-back and winger.

Speaking to TNT Sports, the Liverpool boss highlighted the midfielder’s energy and overall contribution: “Now I think Dominik has a lot of qualities. So he’s an all-round player, an all-round midfielder, a modern midfielder in my opinion”.

“Last season he was already very good mainly off the ball, a bit on the ball, and I think he’s improved his game this season even more on the ball and as I said, off the ball, he’s yeah top three, top four, top five in the world and maybe the best in the world in terms of pressing.”

Dominik Szoboszlai Among Premier League’s Best at Winning Back Possession

The Hungarian midfielder has been one of Liverpool’s most active players without the ball, consistently breaking up play and recovering possession.

According to Opta, he has won the ball back 142 times in 27 league matches this season. It’s a number that puts him among the very best in the league.

Elliot Anderson, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool, currently leads the list:

While Liverpool’s midfield has faced plenty of criticism this season, pairing Szoboszlai with Anderson could help address some of those issues. Both players bring a strong work ethic and have shown they can win the ball back effectively for their teams.
