Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has warned football cannot remove the emotion from the game.

The Gunners head coach was speaking after steps are being taken by authorities to clamp down on the treatment of referees.

Many officials believe that referees are subject to increasing abuse during games by players and fans.

We live the game with emotion," Arteta said on the subject to reporters.

I react when a player scores a goal. I react when a player gives the ball away.

I react to a physio when he wants to fly on the pitch and give treatment and I'm saying: 'No wait!'. We are constantly reacting. This is the game.

We live a game that is passionate and we play to win. And it has to happen. You have to react.

Let's sit down here in the theater and be on mute and see if this league and this game is that interesting. It won't be. That's what makes it special.

In a very respectful way? Yes, for sure."
