Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta heaped praise on his team after they beat Liverpool in the Premier League.

The Gunners found themselves five points adrift of the table toppers pre-game, but won 3-1 on Sunday.

After ensuring his team are now only within two points of top spot, Arteta spoke about the game.

He stated to reporters: It was an extraordinary game. An incredible performance from the players and our people. That's the best atmosphere I've seen all season. We demanded that. We had to go to a different level and connect it again to the demands that this league has. I think the players left absolutely everything. They put their heart and soul in every single ball. I cannot be any prouder because I know how hard it is to beat this team, how much you have to suffer and how much you have to process to do what we did on the ball. So big thankyou."

He then added on winning ugly: Yeah, that was all trained. I told you I couldn't train those but goals but really I knew how to train it!

You have to (score ugly goals) We conceding a really poor goal and that really affected us. The dressing room was really touched at half time. I could sense it. But you cannot feel sorry for yourself against this team because they're going to punish you. We reacted really well after 10 or 15 minutes of suffering. We recovered control and we gave ourselves the big chance to win the game."

He then finished on the team's mentality: Absolutely [elite mentality]. We have shown that today. The thing is, to be the best and have the best mentality you have to do it every three days. That is the challenge that we have. Certainly we showed that today against, in my opinion, the most in form team in Europe.

Now we have to do it tomorrow when we train and the next game against West Ham because we have that body language, that attitude and that energy in the team we are a really difficult team to beat."
