Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira was happy with his performance for their 2-2 draw at Europa League opponents Sporting CP.

The former Porto star was jeered by home support as he enjoyed a start on his home soil.

Vieira later told local reporters: "It was a difficult game. We knew the quality of Sporting. They are very strong at set pieces. We entered well. We reached the goal with a set piece and suffered from a dead ball. We have to correct some mistakes for the game at home. Sporting has quality, we were warned about that. We clearly wanted the victory.

"We know we have the advantage of playing at home, with our supporters, who have been very important to us. We're going to start in the best possible way."

On the jeers, he added: "Normal. Coming from where I come from, this sort of thing is normal. I'm happy at Arsenal, I've been welcomed by everyone."

Of a call to the Portugal squad, Vieira concluded: "Whatever God wants. Whatever happens, I'm here. Whether in the A national team or in the under-21s, I'll do my best. I'm one more to help my country."
