Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta used their VAR controversy at Newcastle to rally players at the end of Saturday's defeat.

Anthony Gordon grabbed the only goal of the game on the day, which needed three VAR checks before it was allowed to stand.

Arteta later raged against the decision and the whole VAR approach in the Premier League.

The Mirror says in the away dressing room at St James' Park many of the players received messages showing the VAR controversy.

Arteta quickly had one of his analysts replay the incidents to show the players what he felt was an injustice. The manager also told his squad that despite defeat, he was proud of their performance and that they did well enough to earn at least a draw.

After his speech, Arteta went to the press room and let rip against VAR and the decision to rule Gordon's goal as good.
