KUNAK: The Sabah Fisheries Department placed seven units of cuboid artificial reef in the sea near Pangi, here, through the “Recreational Artificial Tukun Launching Programme under the Demersal Fisheries Resource Conservation Project.”

Kunak Fisheries Department Aquaculture Unit Chief Saiful Soeradji said the project, among others, aimed to enhance awareness on habitat protection and conservation of fishery resources, with the objective of increasing fish catch and boost the income of traditional fishermen.

“The target group of this reef project is the traditional fishing community and coastal fishermen,” he told Daily Express at the location where the artificial cuboid reefs were docked.
