THE 2025 ASEAN E-Commerce Conference marked a significant milestone as member states and industry leaders reached consensus on implementing the ASEAN Joint Vision on a Trusted and Inclusive E-Commerce Ecosystem 2030, signalling a regional commitment to foster a more transparent, responsible, and inclusive digital commerce environment.

The two-day conference, officially opened by Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Senator Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh, brought together policymakers, regulators, industry players, digital experts, and international organisations to provide a strategic platform for dialogue between governments and the private sector.

The event was co-organised by the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) and the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (NCCIM), reinforcing Malaysia’s leadership role as ASEAN Chair in 2025.

“The agreement reflects our shared commitment to building an e-commerce ecosystem that is trustworthy, accountable, and inclusive, strengthening ASEAN’s position as a leader in digital economic integration for the future,” Dr Fuziah said.

Through the joint vision, ASEAN member states and industry stakeholders have outlined a shared roadmap aimed at enhancing consumer trust, reinforcing the accountability of digital platforms, and promoting responsible business practices across the region.

A core focus is expanding access to microenterprises, women entrepreneurs, and rural communities that continue to face digital divides, while also facilitating smoother cross-border transactions to enhance the efficiency of regional e-commerce operations.

Dr Fuziah emphasised that the ASEAN Joint Vision on a Trusted and Inclusive E-Commerce Ecosystem 2030 will act as a catalyst for developing a robust, credible, and resilient regional e-commerce landscape.

“Malaysia remains committed to harmonising policies, strengthening regulatory frameworks, and driving inclusive digital economic growth for the benefit of consumers, entrepreneurs, and all ASEAN citizens,” she said.

The accord underscores a concerted regional effort to ensure that as e-commerce expands across Southeast Asia, growth is accompanied by greater transparency, equitable access, and sustainable practices that empower businesses and communities alike.  - November 24, 2025
