ASEAN Envoys Meet Singapore Manpower Ministry To Discuss Workforce Challenges

KUALA LUMPUR - Royal Thai Embassy joined an ASEAN delegation for an introductory luncheon hosted by Stanley Loh following his appointment as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Manpower.

The luncheon, held on May 11 in Singapore, brought together ASEAN ambassadors, high commissioners and senior officials.

During the event, Stanley Loh thanked ASEAN member states for their long-standing friendship and continued support towards Singapore’s socio-economic development.

He said foreign workers currently make up about 40% of Singapore’s workforce, highlighting their important role in supporting the country’s economy.

Stanley Loh also spoke about Singapore’s efforts to address challenges linked to its ageing population through the wider use of technology and artificial intelligence (AI) across various sectors.

He said the government is accelerating digital and AI adoption to reduce labour shortages and improve productivity.

Representing Thailand, Chonlatee Chanrachakul highlighted the contribution of Thai workers to Singapore’s economic growth.

She also noted the close cooperation between the Royal Thai Embassy and Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower through initiatives such as the Assurance, Care and Engagement (ACE) Group.

Chonlatee praised Singapore’s continued efforts to improve the welfare of foreign workers, including the development of modern worker dormitories to reduce overcrowding and provide better living conditions for migrant workers.
