The Malaysian arts community is mourning the loss of Mohd Yazid Zakaria, the esteemed conductor of the Malaysian Traditional Orchestra, who recently led the orchestra’s performance during the ASEAN Gala Dinner in Kuala Lumpur. He was 57-years-old.

The late maestro was said to have collapsed while receiving treatment at a clinic before breathing his last breath.

His body was later taken to Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital in Seremban to determine the cause of death.

His passing marks a significant loss to the nation’s cultural and music scene, as he was not only a talented conductor but also a deeply passionate artist who believed in using music as a bridge to unite hearts and uplift the nation’s spirit.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also shared that Mohd Yazid’s child is scheduled to be married on November 1, adding a poignant note to the family’s grief.

Condolences continue to pour in from across the country as fellow musicians, cultural figures, and the public pay their respects to a man who devoted his life to preserving and enriching Malaysia’s musical heritage.
