The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, commonly abbreviated as ASEAN, is a regional grouping of 10 countries in Southeast Asia “that aims to enhance economic integration, strengthen political and security cooperaton, and promote cultural and educational exchanges”. The 46th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur scheduled on 26-27 May, 2025 would be attended by Head of State & Governments of the 10 member countries to strengthen regional trade and investments. Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim in welcoming all Presidents and Prime Ministers of the 10 member countries present at the 46th ASEAN Summit said, “ASEAN leaders have agreed in consensus to strengthen investments and trade within countries in the region amid the shifting geopolitical dynamics, or the unilateral and protectionist tendencies, particularly by the major superpowers." Also on schedule is the ASEAN leaders' Interface with Representatives of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC), that has been established to provide a liaison between business and industry with the various National Business Advisory Council (NBAC) trustees. ASEAN has played a pivotal role in the business and economic development. It has a demonstrable record of enhancing the regional cooperation in the most diverse sub-region of ASEAN & encouraging business cooperation in the wider Asia-Pacific region.
As the former President of Kelab Asian Institute of Management (AIM) Malaysia and Emeritus Chairman of Federation of AIM Alumni Associations, Inc. (FAIM), I had been involved as Hon. Secretary of Malaysia Philippines Business Council (MPBC) and participated in the Philippines Malaysia Business Council (PMBC) based in Manila. We had organised bilateral investment missions in Kuala Lumpur.
I believe people-to-people collaboration among ASEAN nations have contributed significantly to the positive regional environment. There would be great hope for the Asia-Pacific if the whole region could emulate ASEAN's record of enhancing peace and prosperity for all communities. ASEAN must always be sensitive to and take into account the interests and concerns of the people in this region.
