In a convergence of intellectual prowess and spiritual leadership, the Global Ulama Conference is poised to host around 200 esteemed scholars from across the Malay Archipelago on May 7 and 8 in the vibrant city of Petaling Jaya. This anticipated gathering represents a beacon of scholarly discourse and religious enlightenment, drawing participants from diverse backgrounds united in their dedication to Islamic scholarship and community development.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Religious Affairs, Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, anticipates a robust attendance of approximately 1,500 participants on the inaugural day of the conference. This auspicious occasion will be marked by the grand inauguration, graced by none other than Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, symbolizing the government's endorsement of scholarly endeavors and the pursuit of knowledge in the service of society.

The conference's debut promises an enriching experience for attendees, featuring an interactive interface on its first day. This format is designed to foster engaging discussions, collaborative initiatives, and transformative dialogues among scholars, practitioners, and policymakers. Through the exchange of ideas and insights, participants will delve into a wide array of topics spanning theology, jurisprudence, social ethics, and community engagement, seeking to address contemporary challenges and chart a path towards a more enlightened and compassionate society.

On the following day, the conference will transition into a dedicated forum for ASEAN scholars, providing a platform for regional collaboration and cooperation. This specialized session will explore pressing issues and emerging trends impacting the Muslim community in the ASEAN region, offering an opportunity for scholars to share best practices, exchange research findings, and forge meaningful partnerships aimed at advancing shared goals and aspirations.

Mohd Na’im underscores the conference's pivotal role as a catalyst for positive change, emphasizing its potential to inspire religious leaders and scholars to play an active role in fostering unity, understanding, and peaceful coexistence within their respective communities and beyond. By nurturing a culture of dialogue, inclusivity, and mutual respect, the conference seeks to cultivate a more compassionate, just, and harmonious society grounded in the timeless principles of Islamic teachings and values.

This collaborative effort between the Muslim World League and the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia marks the second iteration of the Global Ulama Conference, following its successful debut in Subang Jaya in July 2022. As anticipation mounts for this year's gathering, the stage is set for profound intellectual exchanges, transformative insights, and meaningful collaborations that will shape the trajectory of Islamic scholarship and societal development in the region for years to come.
