KOTA KINABALU: A new African Swine Fever (ASF) case was confirmed in Keningau on Jan 7, affecting 12 out of 20 pigs owned by a village farmer, prompting culling and movement controls by the Veterinary Services Department (DVS).
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan said the disease was confirmed through tests after the pigs displayed symptoms such as weakness, loss of appetite, nasal discharge, and death, with DVS swiftly enforcing biosecurity measures and enhanced surveillance across Sabah.

ASF affects only pigs and does not threaten human health, but farmers and the public are urged to report any sick or dead pigs immediately to the nearest DVS office to prevent further spread.
