KUALA LUMPUR - The legal proceedings between Ashvin Jethanand Valiram and Yogita Kishanchand Jethwani, concluded yesterday after both parties entered into a consent order, effectively halting the potential issuance of an arrest warrant.
The matter, presided over by High Court Judge Sumathi Murugiah, was fixed to hear Yogita’s committal application regarding Ashvin’s alleged breach of a High Court Order dated February 28, 2025.
During the morning session, counsel for Ashvin, Chris Lim Su Heng, informed the court that his client was overseas and would not be attending the proceedings.
Counsel for Yogita, Datuk Seri Rajan Navaratnam, subsequently moved for the court to issue a warrant of arrest against Ashvin, noting that physical attendance is mandatory for a respondent to purge their contempt.
The court was informed that Ashvin had been advised on two previous occasions that his attendance was compulsory and that no further adjournments would be granted.
The Judge, did not immediately issue the warrant but stood the matter down until 4pm to provide Ashvin a final opportunity to attend the hearing for the committal proceedings to be heard on its merits.
The court indicated an inclination to issue a warrant of arrest should Ashvin fail to appear in court yesterday.
Following negotiations during the stand-down period, counsels for both parties informed the court at 4pm that a settlement had been reached.
The terms were duly recorded as a consent order before the Judge, resulting in the stay of the committal proceedings and the withdrawal of the application for an arrest warrant.
Yogita was also represented by Sheena Stephanie Sebastian, while Ashvin was represented by Lim and Tan Jit Kai.
The recording of the consent order establishes a new agreed framework for the parties, superseding the previous litigation regarding the alleged breach.
Ashvin, the director of the Valiram Group, a prominent luxury retail empire in Southeast Asia, and Yogita got married on July 3, 1999 and have two children. However, they have been involved in ongoing divorce litigation since the filing of a petition in September 2018. - April 15, 2026
