Kota Kinabalu: A policeman was on Tuesday charged with two counts of assaulting his girlfriend’s two teenage sons, two years ago.
However, no plea was recorded from Corporal Hazlisham Othman, who was brought before Court Registrar Rita Kunsoi, after the charges were read out to him.
On the first count, Hazlisham, 39, was accused of voluntarily causing hurt to the alleged victim, now 19, at 7am on May 1, 2021, in a unit at Cyber City Apartment in Penampang.
The offence, under Section 323 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of up to one year or with a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, on conviction.

Read more On the second count, the accused allegedly caused grievous hurt to the younger boy, now 17, by hitting him, also at the same place and time.
The charge, under Section 325 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to seven years and liability of a fine on conviction.
Rita set July 18 for Hazlisham’s appearance at the Magistrate’s Court for his plea to be taken.
The accused was offered bail at RM1,000 in one surety on each charge.
Earlier, the prosecution proposed bail at RM1,000 in two sureties on each charge.
Counsel Dominic Chew, representing Hazlisham, applied for a lower bail amount on the grounds that he has no flight risk as he is a police corporal and still on duty.
Chew also informed the court that the accused was the sole breadwinner of the family and has two children.
In another case, a renovation worker was charged with threatening his sibling.
Jerry Saidi, 23, was accused of criminally intimidating one Fenny Saidi in a house at a village here at 7pm on July 3 this year.
However, no plea was taken from Jerry after the charge, under Section 506 of the Penal Code, was read out to him.
The prosecution proposed bail at RM3,000 in two sureties.
Duty counsel Carmen Khoo, representing Jerry, applied for a lower bail on the grounds that he was a renovation worker and taking care of his parents.
The court fixed July 18 for mention and released Jerry on a bail of RM1,500 in two sureties.
