Aston Villa boss Unai Emery admits they were interested in Joao Felix.
Felix signed for Chelsea in January on-loan from Atletico Madrid.
Ahead of Saturday's trip to Chelsea, Emery revealed: 'We are realistic about how we can improve and how we can add players to improve our squad.
"Joao Felix was not completely impossible for us, but he wanted to play for a team in the Champions League.
"He has a high salary and he plays in Chelsea on a loan deal. Chelsea paid a lot of money for him.
"He is a very good player, but we were never really in the game for him."
