The Deputy Minister of Malaysia's Health Ministry, Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni, has announced plans to address concerns surrounding the AstraZeneca vaccine later this week. Speaking after the International Nurses Day Celebration 2024, he assured reporters that the ministry would provide comprehensive information regarding adverse side effects and other pertinent issues related to the vaccine.
"We will elucidate the data concerning adverse side effects, as well as address any concerns and announcements made by AstraZeneca," stated Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni.
Acknowledging reports of adverse reactions to vaccinations, he emphasized that such incidents were not exclusive to the AstraZeneca vaccine. The government possesses data on these occurrences and is committed to transparency by sharing it with the public.
"If side effects from the vaccination surface, the ministry's facilities will be ready to receive them," added Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni.
The nursing ceremony, attended by 1200 nurses from both private and public sectors, focused on the theme "Our Nurses. Our Future. The Economic Power of Care." Regarding the hiring of foreign nurses, Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni revealed that Malaysia had been recruiting foreign nurses since last year, with the hiring window expected to remain open until October this year.
"The recruitment process is very stringent because we don’t want to hire unqualified nurses," he emphasized.
Meanwhile, the Ministry's nursing director, Devi K Saravana Muthu, disclosed that 101 foreign nurses had been hired so far, primarily in the private sector. These nurses, hailing from countries such as India, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, and Indonesia, undergo rigorous screening to ensure their qualifications and competency.
"These stringent measures are in place to uphold the quality of healthcare services provided in Malaysia," affirmed Devi K Saravana Muthu.
Remember that the distribution of the AstraZeneca vaccine for Covid-19 in Malaysia ceased long ago, after the pandemic was brought under control.
