Within the ASUS ExpertBook series of laptops, we have the P3405 as well. It’s released a while back – but it went under the radar for many people, which should not have happened. In many ways, this ExpertBook P3405 is very similar to the other ExpertBook that we reviewed recently. It’s also just as durable to the point that it’s giving worry-free reliability, if you’re curious.

Design

Let’s talk about the similarities first. At first glance, the design is basically identical. It’s in this Misty Gray color that looks sleek and professional yet different compared to the usual black color, measures at around 18mm thin and weighs around 1.36kg.

The deck is still made out of metal – giving it the durability it needs, while the chamfered edges around the deck exude a premium feel.

Screen

Now, the screen is an important highlight. As the model name suggests, this is a 14-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels. The color accuracy here is also very similar to the other ExpertBook, measuring at:

  • sRGB: 56.44%
  • DCI-P3: 40.46%
  • Maximum ΔE: 1.433954
  • Average ΔE: 0.074333
  • Maximum brightness: ~320 nits

The hinge is reinforced by metal and we can carry the laptop by the screen alone. It’s definitely scary, but yes it works.

Keyboard

The keyboard is also just as springy and fun to type on, and it also has the fingerprint scanner at the top right corner to that we can login quickly and securely.

Trackpad

The trackpad has the same feel and all of the same features too. It’s large, has great palm rejection, and overall nothing to complain about. Swiping along the left and right edges will change the brightness and volume, giving us a quick way to change these settings quickly without clicking on some other menu on the screen.

Ports

What’s neat is that the ports are identical too. We have:

  • Left side
    • 2x USB-C (10Gb/s) with USB-PD and DisplayPort Alt Mode support
    • HDMI 2.1 TMDS
    • USB-A (5Gb/s)

  • Right side
    • Kensington lock
    • RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet
    • USB-A (5Gb/s)

All of these ports are also metal-reinforced. As we keep plugging and unplugging the ports, the solder joints might get weaker over time and break – or accidents that literally yank the port out of the motherboard directly. So, by having a metal brace that holds it in place, the port will stay intact even after constant abuse. That’s just great in terms of longevity and reliability over the long term.

Upgradability

Since we have the back panel opened, we can see that the motherboard layout is completely different, though the overall upgrades that we can do here are the same. The M.2 2280 SSD slot is in use by the operating system, and another M.2 slot is unused. We can slot in another SSD if we want to.

The same goes for the DDR5 SO-DIMM slot too. One of it is in use by the included 16GB DDR5 5600MT/s RAM, and we can upgrade it with another 16GB DDR5 5600MT/s RAM. We can technically upgrade it to 2x32GB DDR5 and get a maximum of 64GB RAM.

Specs and performance

What’s different is the specs. For the ExpertBook P3405, it is uses Intel chips. For our particular unit, it is equipped with this list of specs:

  • Intel Core i5-13420H
  • 16GB LPDDR5 RAM at 5200MT/s
  • 512GB NVMe SSD
  • Intel integrated graphics

Honestly though, there is not going to be much difference when we’re doing the typical office work. The biggest difference is when we’re doing AI work locally, like everything within the ASUS ExpertMeet panel.

As what we’ve shown on the review of the ExpertBook PM3406, we have these features:

  • AI Meeting Minutes to transcribe and then translated or summarized, or both.
  • AI Translated Subtitles that listens to audio in our system or microphone, than transcribe and translate it in real-time.

The speed of these two AI tasks will definitely not be as quick as the ExpertBook PM3406, but it can still achieve the same end goal. But, the ExpertBook P3405 will have the same magnificent level of durability. We can stand on the laptop – and it will still survive.

Should you buy the ASUS ExpertBook P3405?

The ASUS ExpertBook P3405 is an excellent choice if your company values reliable and durable devices. While this particular model is a strong performer, you might consider the P400 series of AIO PCs if you don’t require this level of mobility.

One of the most compelling reasons to choose the ASUS ExpertBook and ExpertCenter series over consumer-grade devices is the exceptional after-sales service. Every purchase comes with ASUS ExpertCare, which provides peace of mind with:

  • A 3-year on-site service with a “next business day” response time throughout Malaysia.
  • A 3-year battery warranty.
  • A 1-year ASUS Perfect Warranty, which covers accidental damage like drops, breakages, liquid spills, and electrical surges.

There are also additional options to extend your warranty for even longer protection.

This specific variant of the ExpertBook P3405 is just one example. You can customize the device to fit your company’s needs. For instance, you could get a higher-resolution screen with better color accuracy for creative work. Volume orders are also available and can lead to a great deal.
