  • Ahmad Mulakhil, an Afghan asylum seeker, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the abduction, rape, and sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl in Nuneaton, Warwickshire.
  • Mulakhil was found guilty at Warwick Crown Court of rape, two counts of sexual assault, child abduction, and taking an indecent video of the victim, having also admitted a further rape charge before his trial.
  • The judge, Kristina Montgomery KC, emphasised the victim's particular vulnerability and the significant, ongoing psychological and medical trauma she continues to suffer due to Mulakhil's offending.
  • Mulakhil, who arrived in the UK on a small boat four months prior to the offences last July, showed no emotion during the sentencing, where he was also given an additional 12 months on licence.
  • The incident sparked protests in Nuneaton, and a co-defendant, Mohammad Kabir, also an Afghan asylum seeker, was acquitted of all charges related to the case.
