Asyraf urges BN supporters to avoid arrogance and focus on serving the people after Negeri Sembilan win.
SEREMBAN: UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) supporters have been urged not to insult or belittle their defeated political opponents following the coalition’s victory in the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election.
UMNO secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said such behaviour should be avoided, despite BN having faced criticism, accusations and attacks throughout the campaign period.
“Do not repeat past mistakes, avoid arrogance, and now focus on carrying out the people’s mandate with sincerity and humility,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Asyraf said the victory of BN and Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the state election demonstrated that when two major Malay-based parties chose cooperation and placed the people’s interests above all else, it created a united strength that brought blessings and benefits.
“Indeed, this victory is not because of our strength, wisdom or efforts alone, but because everything happened with the permission, mercy and assistance of Allah SWT.
“Alhamdulillah, in Negeri Sembilan, all differences have been bridged in pursuit of a common goal — to restore political stability, drive the state’s development and prioritise the welfare of the people,” he said.
He stressed that the victory should not be regarded as the end, but rather the beginning of a greater responsibility.
“Thank you to the people of Negeri Sembilan for the mandate and trust placed in BN and PN. Insya-Allah, we will carry out this responsibility with strong commitment through a stable, clean and integrity-driven administration that will always prioritise the welfare of the people,” he said.
Earlier, Election Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun announced that BN had won 18 of the 36 Negeri Sembilan state seats, followed by Pakatan Harapan (PH) with 11 seats and PN with seven.
BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi also announced last night that a new state government would be formed with the support of 25 out of the 36 seats secured by the BN-PN alliance in the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election.
