Asyraf Wajdi: No apology for expelling MRSM bullies, student safety non-negotiable

“I want to protect the safety of the majority of students, not the few who think they are above the law,” the MARA chairman says - August 9, 2025

MARA chairman brushes off legal threats from parents, insists discipline and protection of the majority must come first

DATUK Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, Chairman of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), has defended the expulsion of several students from MARA Junior Science Colleges (MRSM) over bullying incidents, declaring that the safety and wellbeing of the wider student body must take precedence.

In a forthright statement shared on his official Facebook page, Asyraf Wajdi acknowledged that some parents had reacted angrily to the disciplinary action and were considering legal proceedings against both him and MARA.

“Bring it on!” he responded, unshaken by the threat of lawsuits.

“I want to protect the safety of the majority of students, not the few who think they are above the law,” he wrote, using the hashtag #YouTouchYouGo to reinforce his zero-tolerance stance.

His comments underline MARA’s commitment to strict disciplinary standards in its residential school system, particularly in response to mounting concerns over bullying in MRSM institutions.

“Student safety is non-negotiable. The welfare of the many must not be jeopardised to accommodate a handful who behave like thugs,” he added.

While his firm position has sparked debate, Asyraf Wajdi reiterated that MARA will not waver when it comes to enforcing discipline and ensuring a secure learning environment for all students.

The expulsions come amid wider calls for reform and accountability in boarding school settings, where bullying cases have, in recent years, drawn national scrutiny.

MARA’s message under Asyraf Wajdi’s leadership is now unmistakable: any student who engages in bullying will face serious consequences, regardless of background or influence. - August 9, 2025
