MOSCOW: At least 100 people were injured and several more were killed as a result of an explosion at a fuel depot in Conakry, Guinea’s capital, national media reported on Monday, reported Sputnik.

The blast occurred on Sunday night in the Kaloum district, the business and administrative centre of Conakry, where the presidential palace, many ministries, embassies and banks are located.

The Africaguinee news portal medical reported, citing sources, that one of the Conakry hospitals admitted at least 100 casualties overnight.

The explosion caused significant material damage to the warehouse and neighbouring houses. Hundreds of people evacuated from the incident area on their own. Access to this area is allowed only to employees of medical services and security forces. -Bernama
