At least 34 people were injured in a fire that broke out in the roof structure of a hospital in the northern German town of Ludwigslust early on Thursday, police said.

One person was being resuscitated, a police official said.

Patients and hospital staff were being evacuated from the building. The roof structure had been burning since 4:28 am (0228 GMT), according to police.

Authorities said the situation remained highly dynamic and it was not immediately clear how many people were being evacuated.

Police were initially unable to provide details on the severity of the injuries.
