At least 82 killed in coal mine explosion in China

At least 82 people have been killed in a gas explosion at a coal mine in northern China, state media reported on Saturday.

State news agency Xinhua had previously reported that at least eight people had died following the explosion on Friday evening, while dozens of other miners remain trapped inside the mine in Qinyuan County, Shanxi Province.

The cause of the accident was initially unknown, with rescue operations ongoing.
