At least eight MARA students allege they were victims of sexual harassment

AT least eight students at educational institutions under Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) have alleged that they were victims of sexual harassment.

MARA chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said he had received messages from several students regarding the allegations and immediately instructed the management to take action.

“I immediately asked the management to take action by suspending the staff member involved first to facilitate the investigation and ensure there was no interference,” he said in a Facebook post today.

He said the students involved had also been encouraged to lodge police reports as the allegations involved possible criminal offences.

“I am puzzled that these students feel more comfortable complaining directly to me rather than to the management,” he said.

Asyraf Wajdi said MARA had assured the students that no case would be concealed or ignored under any circumstances.

“There is no such thing as protecting the institution’s reputation when it involves the safety and welfare of students,” he said.

He urged students not to be afraid to report any misconduct, particularly cases involving sexual harassment.

“MARA will never compromise on deviant behaviour and will take firm action, including dismissal, against those involved,” he said. - August 16, 2026
