At least seven people were killed in a powerful blast in Pakistan’s north-western province bordering Afghanistan, officials said on Saturday.
The attack took place in the Bannu district of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province where a private vehicle carrying passengers was targeted with a home-made bomb in the early morning.
“At least seven people were killed and another three were seriously wounded,” a local police official said.
He said that the security forces have cordoned off the area and started investigations into the incident.
Prime Miniter Shehbaz Sharif condemned the terrorist attack and renewed his government’s commitment to fight the menace of terrorism.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
The north-western region bordering Afghanistan has borne the brunt of militancy for decades and suffered persistent attacks. Bannu has witnessed an uptick in terrorist attack in recent months.
Last month, at least 15 policemen were killed when a suicide bomber rammed a vehicle loaded with explosive into a police check post.
In 2025, the province recorded 3,811 terrorist incidents including 16 suicide attacks. Overall, Pakistan reported 5,397 terrorist incidents including 27 suicide attacks during the course of the year, according to the military’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Pakistan says there has been a spike in terrorist incidents since the Afghan Taliban took back control in Kabul in 2021.
