At least two people were killed in a Russian attack on Ukraine's north-eastern Sumy region, local authorities said on Thursday.

Four people were injured and taken to hospital, military governor Oleh Hryhorov said in a post on Telegram.

He did not provide further details about the circumstances of the attack.

The rural settlement of Yampil, where the strike occurred, lies around 20 kilometres from the Russian border.

Russian forces currently control a small part of the border area in Sumy.
